Cultures of Giving

‘Say the word ‘philanthropist and most people envision wealthy, Caucasian do-gooders writing large checks in the millions.’ This vision however is incorrect as philanthropy is given a broader meaning with a wider base of participants. Some interesting points:

  • Communities of color have traditionally received smaller percentages of philanthropic dollars while having a greater need.
  • Giving from the Latino and African American population increases, with African Americans giving away on average 25% more of their income then their white counterparts.
