Yes that’s right, your best investment is YOU. This is not some philosophical horsecrap, no… it’s an absolute truth. Warren Buffett and Tony Robbins will tell you the same. Think about it, YOU ARE STUCK WITH YOU, from the moment you are born until the moment you pass away. You better start liking what you see in the mirror and aspire to see a better version of yourself every single day.
Now, I don’t normally share quotes, because let’s face it, they have started to lose their value since the era of social media. Quotes are tirelessly thrown about just about everywhere and anywhere! I have friends who clock in around 10 am and the first thing they do is update their social media about how they are ”hustling”.
Because quotes are being used and abused, that doesn’t mean they are less valuable. Also, as is often the case with quotes and wisdoms, they CANNOT BE REPEATED ENOUGH, because no matter how much sense they make, you always seem to forget about them.
Now, I have come across this quote many times before, and perhaps the same goes for you, yet, I was reminded about this little wisdom when a friend started to wine about how her ‘boss’ didn’t value and appreciate her. Whether she was right or not, it’s besides the point.
Reality dictates that we are all at risk of getting stuck in jobs that don’t fulfil our dreams and aspirations. There are just a lot of assholes out there, and some of them happen to be employers. That’s ok, it’s a fact of life, yet, don’t go crying and expect people to pitty you. Let me tell you, that doesn’t work.
Whatever situation you find yourself in and whatever you do, you should ALWAYS strive to be the best version of yourself and ALWAYS look for ways in which you can improve and develop yourself. If you do that, you will always come out on top. You are in charge of your life, so every positive action you take, will be to your advantage.
Of course that doesn’t mean its easy, or that there is no risk in the things we do. We all have our down moments and we should celebrate those, as it’s often precisely these moments were we start to ‘ponder’ and come up with solutions. After all, if you don’t experience the lows how can you enjoy the highs? All of that that shouldn’t stop you, as after all, even life itself is a huge risk. I mean, as far as I’m aware, no one has made it out alive! So, what’s this enlightening quote you say?
“Work hard at your job and you can make a living. Work hard on yourself and you can make a fortune.” John Rohn
”If you change your attitude, you will change your altitude. Steve Harvey
This makes perfect sense right? Ok sure, you can put on your cynical hat and say ‘ha my job hardly makes me a living’ and ‘if working on yourself makes you a fortune, then why aren’t professors filthy rich?’. Sure, you have a point, yet, that’s life and if we start to take this view then we may as well throw in the towel on life.
Either way, I think it’s important you keep this little wisdom in mind. Why? Well, because jobs come and go, yet, you are ‘stuck’ with ‘yourself’ from start to finish. Living a healthy, happy and, fulfilling life is therefore your number one priority. So, first and foremost, work hard on YOURSELF!!
Hey, I know I’m not making any revelations here, yet, do yourself a favour and make sure this one doesn’t slip of your radar. Write it down and put it somewhere were you will see this, along with any other little wisdom treasures you may have, each and everyday.
